Born and raised in the west of Holland, but currently residing in New York City, Dennis Leeflang, took an interest in drums at an early age. By the tender age of 20 Dennis was already making quite a name for himself, playing shows all over Europe and teaching drums part-time. By age 22, successful projects in his home country included bands such as Within Temptation, Sun Caged and Epica.
In 2002, Dennis was offered the opportunity to tour with Bumblefoot, a.k.a. Ron Thal (Guns N Roses). After two years of extensive European touring with Ron and realizing the opportunities available outside of Holland, the 25 year old drummer exchanged wind mills for skyscrapers and moved to New York City with merely his cymbals, some clothes and a desire to succeed.
His new home also provided an opportunity to study under world renowned drum educator, Dom Famularo, who has described Dennis as “a tremendous talent” with a “maturity in his approach to drumming” that is “very creative”.
Dennis continued to enhance his drumming skills by accepting projects in previously uncharted genres, working with world renowned producers including, P.J. Bianco (Jonas Brothers) and Nick Sansano (Sonic Youth, Ice Cube, John Spencer Blues Explosion, Galactic). His recording collaborations include artists ranging from pop idol Tiffany Giardina (Disney) to guitar shredders such as Shane Gibson (KorN) and Chris Poland (Megadeth).
In the summer of 2009, Dennis was asked to join Lita Ford (known from hits such as Kiss Me Deadly and Close My Eyes Forever w/Ozzy Osbourse) on tour with less than 48 hours to learn her set list. Never one to turn his back on a challenge, Dennis proved to be the consummate professional and with Ford, Dennis toured all over Europe and the United States throughout the summer and fall of 2009, including performances at prestigious events such as the Bang Your Head! Festival in Balingen, Germany, the Gods Of Metal festival in Milan, Italy, and the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. Next to recording and touring with Bumblefoot, Dennis is currently the drummer for Danger Danger front man Ted Poley’s solo band.
Dennis proudly endorses Vic Firth sticks, Sabian cymbals, S-Hoop drum hoops, Cymbag cymbal sleeves, Protection Racket drum bags and cases, Robokey drum keys, Hansenfutz practice pedals, and Big Bang Distribution. Some of these endorsements have enabled him to travel all over the globe to perform clinics and workshops for hungry drum fans. In his home country of The Netherlands, Dennis has become one of the most influential rock drummers of recent years. He consistently ranks as one of the top rock drummers in the readers polls of Slagwerkkrant magazine in The Netherlands annually. He has also been featured in advertisements and write-ups in major international drum magazines such as Drum! and Modern Drummer. Dennis cites his main drumming influences, as Nicko McBrain, Steve Jordan, Dave Abbruzzese, Stewart Copeland, Chad Smith, Jeff Porcaro and Josh Freese.
